The Monster’s Playbook is a podcast created by a group of friends whose bond endured the global pandemic and strengthened through storytelling and gameplay. What began as casual gaming sessions eventually evolved into a full-fledged podcast. In each episode, the group plays Monster of the Week, a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) by Generic Games designed to capture the feel of TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, and Scooby-Doo. The podcast dives into a variety of topics, emotions, villains, and supernatural monsters.
In addition to being a player on The Monster’s Playbook, I also serve as the show’s producer, editor, and audio engineer. I craft immersive soundscapes and enhance the storytelling with carefully selected music, sound effects, and audio treatments, all designed to heighten the drama, tension, and emotional depth of each scene. This podcast has become an incredible creative outlet for me—a space where I get to experiment, have fun, and push the boundaries of what I can do with sound. It’s also been a valuable opportunity to continuously grow and refine my audio editing skills. A moment I’m particularly proud of is when characters are forced to confront their past or face emotionally intense situations. In those episodes, I use subtle ambient layers, reverb, and tonal shifts in music to reflect the characters’ internal struggles and draw listeners deeper into the story. My goal is always to create a rich, cinematic listening experience that brings our world—and its monsters—to life.
